Who's Buying Red Rock Island? The ONLY Private Island for Sale in SF Bay!
Calling all Billionaires: San Francisco Bay's only private island is now for sale for $25,000,000. Listed for the first time on the MLS by Chris Lim with Christie's International Real Estate, this 5.8 acre private island has caused quite a splash, with articles written by the New York Times, NPR, the Wall Street Journal in the last few weeks. While on a property tour trip in San Francisco, we had a chance to tour it and jumped at the opportunity.
A few facts about Red Rock Island:
Red Rock Island is situated in the San Francisco Bay and has views of the Richmond Bridge, Belvedere Island, and downtown San Francisco. It gets it's signature red color from the manganese on the island, which was mined in the 1860s and shipped to Europe to be used as paint pigment.
The island was home to a resident in the 1800s: Selim Woodworth who built a cabin and lived on Red Rock Island. He tried to claim title to the island via the Homestead Act, but the government refused his claim because they thought the island may be needed at some point for defensive purposes.
Red Rock Island is 500 feet across from east to west, 750 feet from north to south, and rises to a height of 151 feet. It's surrounded by some of the deepest water in the North bay (nearly 60 feet deep).
Red Rock Island is privately held and not available for tours, so we are happy that we had the opportunity to tour it and share this special island with all of you.
